So you’ve decided to open up a small business and you’re going to work out of your house. How many people have laughed and said you could work in your pajamas? Whenever someone has said this to me I always ask if they work in their pajamas. Seriously. It’s a stupid thing to say. Even when I worked a corporate job from home I got this kind of flack. People say dress for the job you want to have. You want to be a successful business owner, right? An entrepreneur. A creative genius. A leader in your field. Dress for that. Dress like you’re giving someone a studio tour and they’re bringing their checkbook! It doesn’t have to be a suit and heels or anything, but I believe it’s important to separate your work time from your leisure time as distinctly as possible. Most of us have our work space separated - a studio, workshop or office. I don’t work in bed or on the couch, why should I dress like I do? The rush of the first sale

OMG. A former co-worker and now Facebook friend bought a bracelet yesterday. Thank you, Jen! I'm so happy for her that she'll get a piece that is truly lovely and since I know her personally, I know it will look smashing on her. Here it is! The funny thing is, that design has worked for me before. I've sold one almost exactly like it a few years ago from my Etsy shop . It's interesting that repeat-ability is something that a business really needs. Even a handmade business where no two things are completely identical. Designs that work are designs that work. So after spending an hour or so looking over my books, I remembered a few other pieces that sold well in the past and I'll be getting down to the bench! But first I have to print a label and ship a package to my friend. Sweet.
